12-31-05
-- The Fourth Blog. 2008 presidential candidates and other
topics of interest.
Today,
let's talk about the probable upcoming presidential candidates in the 2008
election. That election is
going to be one of the most critical in our history, as I would agree that
this current administration has set a certain tone with its extreme brand
of conservativism all in the name of the war on terror.
Seeing as that war could last a long time, and possibly even
forever…the civil liberties we are now surrendering are most likely to
be surrendered forever. So,
if Bush's brand of conservatism is your cup of tea, then you'll want to
vote for a candidate who is most likely to continue Bush's policies.
If, however, you want to reign in the powers of the government,
reign in the budget and try to keep our government out of our lives and
personal business, then you'll want to vote another way. Now, interestingly, this upcoming election is very unique in
a certain way. Not
since 1928 has an election not had either the sitting President or Vice
President as a potential candidate.
In
2008, President Bush will be prohibited from seeking a third term by
Amendment XXII to the U.S. Constitution. In the three most recent
eight-year administrations, the incumbent Vice President has subsequently
run for President:
However,
current Vice President Dick Cheney announced in 2001 that he would never
run for President, a statement he reiterated as recently as 2004: while
appearing on Fox News Sunday, Cheney stated: "I will say just
as hard as I possibly know how to say ... 'If nominated, I will not run,'
'If elected, I will not serve,' or not only 'no,' but 'Hell, no,' I've got
my plans laid out. I'm going to serve this President for the next four
years, and then I'm out of here." Cheney is known not to be in
particularly good health: a former heavy smoker, he has had four heart
attacks and repeated surgery on his heart and circulatory system, and he
has persistent atherosclerotic disease. In 2008 he will be 67 years old.
The
2008 race will therefore likely be a non-incumbent or "open
seat" election in which a sitting President is not a candidate.
Furthermore, assuming Cheney serves his full term and does not run, the
2008 race will be the first time since 1928 that neither the sitting
President nor the sitting Vice President is a candidate for President.
So, today, we're going to review the potential 2008 US Presidential
candidates. Below this
sign-off, you'll find an encapsulated version of what is known about the
candidates.
Well,
I hope you all enjoyed the FREE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS.
The whole point of this show is that NO ONE PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO
DEFINE THEIR WAY AS BEING THE ONLY ONE WHICH IS AMERICAN, PATRIOTIC, AND
ACCEPTABLE. The Constitution
GUARANTEES each of you, and me, the right to disagree wherever we want to,
and according to that law, as long as we do not support or endorse the
overthrow of the government or the support of its enemies, we are being
TRUE AMERICANS by practicing our RIGHT to the FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
I
wholeheartedly HATE our enemies, and I MORE than wholeheartedly LOVE MY
COUNTRY more than anything, and every man and woman serving this great
country to defend our rights and freedoms.
I think this current government, this administration is
short-sighted, but that it has the interests of the United States at
heart. I simply wish to
exercise my disagreement with their methods by talking, and most
importantly, by casting my vote. And
that is all I advise or ask of my listeners…agree or disagree with me,
fine, and do so in public, and use your vote to guide this country to the
destiny our Framers intended.
So
I want to end this show with some words that much wiser men than I have
spoken before, on behalf of this notion that to be utterly free,
we MUST allow for complete disagreement of the strategies and
policies of the current Administration and its Majority. To avoid the Tyranny of the Majority, to give just measure of
devotion to the honored dead who gave us these rights…we must remember
to PRACTICE being fee. Speak
now…or you may be forced to hold your peace.
The
only way to make sure people you agree with can speak is to support the
rights of people you don't agree with.
Those
who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people
who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without
thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many
waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or
it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing
without a demand; it never has and it never will.
You hear that…power concedes nothing without demand. We must DEMAND of our leaders to give us our power back, the
way the framers of our constitution intended.
I
close again with my favorite words of Abraham Lincoln that this "…government of the people, by the
people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
